Quentin Alimayu
Social Studies/Justice Educator

​Quentin Alimayu has attended several professional development seminars rooted in incorporating literacy in Social Studies. He participated in the Core Practices for Inquiry-based History Teaching seminar at Stanford University. Additionally, He has training from Teaching Tolerance and Educational Equity Consultants in the areas of Unpacking Racism and Social Justice and has attended many conferences geared towards dismantling racism and privilege.

As an education advocate: he is committed to the facilitation of a well-managed, positive academic environment that encourages social interaction, and active engagement in learning processes. His education background includes: receiving a Masters of Science in Education Degree from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Teacher Leadership and History. He has completed coursework towards a second Masters Degree at the University of Missouri- St. Louis in Education Administration and earned a Bachelors Degree in Secondary Education from Harris-Stowe State University. 

Currently, he serves in several leadership roles in his work and professional areas. These include:  serving as a Missouri Council of Social Studies (MCSS) 63 Regional Delegate Board Member and (as of Spring 2019) the Vice President of Publications. He also serves as a Discovery Education DEN Star and Leadership Council member. This spring he was selected as one of two Discovery Education Spotlight Educators to present on their behalf at the Midwest Education Technology Community Conference (2019). In his district, he serves as a member of his school's Diversity Cadre, a District STEM Leader Corps member, a Curriculum and Instruction Advisory Board Member, an Affinity Group for Male students of color Co-Sponsor.

His personal interests and hobbies vary, as he is interested in a variety of fields and skills. This includes everything from participating in intramural sports to music and video production. He is a hands-on learner that is always looking to improve his skills and find ways to incorporate his new abilities in his workplace and practice. 

He states that he is in the education profession because he genuinely believes in the power of education and the impact of educators. Quentin thinks that "good education is paramount to anyone’s definition of success, and while all successful individuals may not have the same level of education, they needed someone to teach and equip them with the tools necessary for their advancement."  He aims to be the type of educator that facilitates that growth.

His goal is not just to teach the curriculum to support students’ academic success, but to provide the social skills and counseling needed to assist in their growth through adolescence and beyond.
